Shiner Hefeweizen:
Evenin’ all. So today wraps up this week of Shiner and it’s already a improvement over last weeks dreg through the common side of the beer cooler. We’ll wrap up this Shiner week with the Hefeweizen, a beer that was my first hef back in college. Though I remember this having one guy with his image reversed. Maybe I remember wrong. Anyway, for those new to the beer game, a Hefeweizen is a traditional white beer that has it’s origin in Belgium and Germany (based on the blend). These beers can be combined with oranges, lemons or even cola to make different combinations. Shiner’s Hefeweizen is a Belgium Witbier being brewed with lemon and orange peel, a dash of honey and, on top of it all, is bottle conditioned. Bottle conditioning allows this beer to continue to brew while in the bottle. The beer has strong lemon and grass nose with a wheat citrus taste and a banana-esque aftertaste. A good beer that can be accompanied by a lemon wedge maybe even a orange and enjoyed on a nice summer evening people watching. Best paired with pizza, not sure why it works but a pizza mixes well with this beer.
