Abita Vanilla Double Dog:
Hello dear hearts! As we continue our exploration into Louisiana beer during this Mardi Gras festival, we turn to the first of the three remaining big bottle beers left in the Abita catalog. The Vanilla Double Dog is the newest into the big beer line. Made to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the brewery, Double Dog is a nicely colored porter that really doesn’t impress me. You’d think that beer that combines pale, caramel, and chocolate malts with vanilla beans added in the aging process would provide a “wow” beer. Sadly, for me, it comes across as a middle of the road porter. Wish it cold be more but it isn’t, and that is a shame. Other people love this brew and I have to be happy for them, however, I will continue to love my Andy Gator.

Now the rum on the other hand, is amazing. Old New Orleans Cajun Spice Rum is one of those spirits that redefines delicious. It comes across with a spicy smell that has under notes of Coca Cola. The taste is best described as a creamy cinnamon. The rum is a nice blend of the 3 year old rum and secret Cajun spices, blended at the distillery. Much like the 10 year before it, this rum is best enjoyed sipping out of a sniffer glass though this combined with normal ice tea makes a killer summer drink.
