Duchesse De Bourgogne:
Greetings fellow readers, today, we are all in for a treat. Once again we jump to that wonderful land of Smurfs, Belgium and a sample a double fermented, aged beer: Duchesse De Bourgogne. Michael Weaver recommended this beer to me and I will say that I’m still on the fence to hug him or put a restraining order against him. His description of this beer was spot on, Cider and Balsamic Vinegar. Now what I’ve read online is that this beer is supposed to taste like passion fruit and chocolate. HA! Yeah, well this one is amazingly complex with tons of subtle fruit notes on the back end and a very dry, almost Brute style finish. Drinking this beer, I couldn’t help but think that my taste buds were going through a trip akin to Dave’s light speed trip to the Big Bang in “2001: A Space Odyssey”. The full details on how this devil’s brew is concocted are pretty cool. Fermented twice, the beer is then stored in oak barrels for 18 months, after that, taken out, blended with an 8 month old version of itself and bottled. Yeah, amazing beer, probably only a once every six months, but worth it.
