Budweiser American Ale:
Hello intrepid hop-heads! We are now halfway
through the week of Budweiser (can I get an AMEN!) and the trend seems
to be following a pattern of “ok” followed by “this is beer?!”. Today’s
example is actually one I was holding out hope for being the ringer,
Budweiser’s American Ale. The only amber in the Bud line up, this beer
was brought about a few years ago as a way to introduce ales to the masses.
I seriously hope that if this is the case, I had a bad bottle because,
wow, this thing was terrible. There is slight aroma of hops on the
initial pour; nothing heavy or overpowering, which is okay, this is
meant to be a gateway beer for those with untrained pallets. Well, the
taste was nothing other than gag worthy. Best description I can give is
burnt sugar. The beer contains an aftertaste that sits in the middle
of your mouth and lingers there; over powering anything you try to
consume to wash it out with. Ugh, not a beer I’d recommend to anyone,
ever. Now this trend of good and bad does not bode well for the rest of
the week’s beers, but I’ve been surprised once already this week so
maybe that Bud Ice will taste just awesome!
